Obituary

Margie Jean Burnett, age 91, of Vandalia, MO passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 2:00 am Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at home.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 5, 2020 at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery following the service.

Visitation celebrating Margie's life will be held at 1:00 pm until the time of service Friday, June 5, 2020, at the Waters Funeral Home.

The public is welcome to attend the services for Margie but due to Covid-19 we are asking you follow social distancing guidelines. Please stay six feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone in attendance is encouraged to wear a mask or other personal protective equipment.

Margie was born on June 3, 1929, in Vandalia, Missouri the daughter of James William and Katie Louisa (Morris) Boyd.

She was united in marriage to Marvin P. Burnett on November 23, 1947 in Vandalia, MO. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, Danny Ray Burnett and wife Connie of Vandalia; one daughter, Jeannie Kay George and husband Craig of Vandalia; grandchildren, Makayla (John)  Anderson of St. Peters, Danielle (Brandon) Bealmear of Wentzville, Megan George of St. Charles and Kristen (Evan) Grusenmeyer of Columbia; great grandson, Andrew P. Anderson of St. Peters; sister-in-law, Connie Boyd and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lawrence Earl Boyd and James G. Boyd; one son, Marvin Duane "Burny" Burnett; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Ann Boyd and Joann Boyd.  

Margie attended grade school at Prairie View elementary then graduated from the Vandalia High School Class of 1947. Marvin and her were the owners of the Vandalia Dairy Queen in the late 1950's to early 1960's. Later she went to work as a cook for the Tri-County Nursing Home when it first opened then later worked for the Vandalia Florist for 25 years prior to her retirement.

She was a member of  the First Baptist Church in Vandalia, Round Grove Extension Club and the Woman's Circle of the First Baptist Church.

Margie was a homemaker, she loved gardening, canning and her flower gardens. She was a wonderful cook and was known to make the best pies and sweets for her family and friends. Most of all Margie loved caring for her grandchildren, attending their events and sharing her skills of cooking and sewing with them.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Bealmear, Evan Grusenmeyer, Dean Middleton, Jay Boyd, Bob Giltner and Dick Hammett

Honorary Pallbearers are John Anderson and Andrew Anderson

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Vandalia, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
