Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia, Missouri.
Service:

Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 213 N. Lindell, Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
Officiating will be: Rev. Derek Grigg.
Music provided by: Shirley Forgy - pianist; Glen & Carolyn Bailey - duet.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Chad McKain, Adam McKain, Jeff Wood, Andy Wood, Michael Wood and Ralph Nelson.

Virginia M. McCollum passed away at 1:08 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. Virginia and husband, Sam have been residents of Vandalia since 1988. Virginia graduated from Clayton High School in 1938. She worked for the United States Government Records Department for three years. Virginia and Sam were married in 1948 and she worked for many years as a postal clerk in the Farber and Laddonia Post Offices'. In 1967, Virginia graduated from the LPN school at the Audrain Hospital and worked as an LPN there for eight years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia where she was active in the WMU organization and was the church librarian. Virginia enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Born: May 15, 1921 in Guilford County, North Carolina the daughter of Thomas Brooks and Maggie Louverta (Shelton) Harris.

Married: Samuel Jones McCollum on September 26, 1948 in St. Louis; he survives.

Survivors include: husband, Sam of Vandalia; two daughters: Arlene F. and husband, Jack McKain of What Cheer, Iowa; Sandi G. and husband, Alan Wood of Henderson, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Chad and wife, April McKain of What Cheer, Iowa; Adam and wife, Evie McKain of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Jeff and wife, Jenny J. Wood of Henderson, Kentucky; Andy Wood of Henderson, Kentucky; Michael Wood of Windsor Heights, Iowa; Jenny S. Wood of Henderson, Kentucky; Carla Wistrom of Ankeny, Iowa and Kristina Mayfield of Carrollton, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren: Sadie McKain, Addison McKain, Caleb Wood, Isaac Wood and Isabel Wood.

Preceded in death by: infant daughter, Sue Elaine McCollum; three brothers: Jack Harris, Brooks Harris and James "Jinx" Harris; two sisters: Flora Harris and Mary Koski.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the First Baptist Church, 213 N. Lindell, Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
