Virginia Ann Fowler

Virginia Ann Fowler, age 89, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 8:45 pm Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Tri-County Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, November 12, 2021 at Spencer Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery following the service.

Visitation celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Thursday, November, 11, 2021 at the Waters Funeral Home.

Virginia was born on November 9, 1931, in Rural Ralls County, Missouri the daughter of L.H. (Ham) and Willie (Nutgrass) Fike.

She was united in marriage to Harold C. Fowler on February 19, 1950 in Perry, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2018.

She was also preceded in death by her Parents; Brother, Lyndel Fike; Father-in-law, Sherman Fowler; Mother-in-law, Jessie Fowler; Two Brother-in-laws, Gilbert Fowler, and Donald Fowler; Two Sister-in-laws, Lois Fowler, and Margaret Fowler.

Survivors include her Son, Gary C. (Leslie) Fowler of Vandalia; Daughter, Vickie A. Lewis of Huntsville; Two Grandsons, Jared R. (Katie) Lewis of Lee Summit, and Jason A. (Whitney) Lewis of Greenwood; Three Granddaughters, Jamie L. (Heather) Fowler of Columbia, Lindsy A.(Mark) Alexander of Lee Summit, and Kelsy L. Fowler of Vandalia, MO; Nine Great-Grandchildren, Ben, Vivi, Asa, Nora, Silas, August, Leah, Della Ray and Lucy. Also surviving is one Sister-in-law, Amy Fike of Lowell, Arkansas.

Virginia graduated from Vandalia High School, Class of 1949 as the valedictorian and worked as a bookkeeper for Vandalia State Bank, Centerre Bank, and Bank of America for 30+ years before retiring. She was a devoted member of the Spencer Creek Baptist Church in rural Vandalia where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the children for many years. She also was a big supporter of the 4-H program where she was a project and club leader.

Virginia loved collecting Precious Moments and anything to do with chickens. She enjoyed cooking and shopping, especially for Christmas. In her younger years she loved to spend time square dancing with her husband, Harold. Family was very important to Virginia and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jared Lewis, Jason Lewis, Mark Alexander, Jared Hopke, Ben Lewis and John Fike.

Honorary Pallbearers are Alvin Fowler, Bruce Fowler, Glenn Fowler, Lee Gore and Jeff Wright.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA or Vandalia City Cemetery, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
