Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vandalia, Missouri.
Pallbearers: Mike Keith, Billy W. Bourne, Ed Horton, Chris Nieburg, R. D. Wilkinson and Bill Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearer was Paul Horton.
Thelma I. (Herren) Rutherford passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. She was a lifelong area resident and was a 1935 graduate of Curryville High School. Thelma worked as a beautician for a few years until she married Ogle Rutherford in 1941. She then worked as a seamstress for the Ely Walker Garment factory in Vandalia for seven years. Later on, she worked as a cook at the Van-Far High School for nearly seven years before retiring. Thelma was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Vandalia where she had sang in the choir for many years. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed cooking, working crossword puzzles and reading.
Born: May 25, 1917 in Curryville, Missouri the daughter of Stirl and Mary (Hutchinson) Herren.
Married: Ogle Wayne Rutherford on April 26, 1941 in Vandalia; he preceded her on April 28, 2004.
Survivors include: two sons: T. Alan and wife, Fran Rutherford of Grain Valley, Missouri; Lindell G. and wife, Marsha Rutherford of Smithfield, Virginia; one sister: Opal Cochran of Cory Lane, Idaho; five grandchildren: Scott and wife, Christy Rutherford of Kansas City, Missouri; Amanda and husband, Chris Nieburg of Kirkwood, Missouri; Van and wife, Kelly Rutherford of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Will and wife, Cindy Corr of Anna Maria Isle, Florida and Sarah and husband, Dustin Smiley of Bangor, Maine; five great-grandchildren: Ford Smiley, Owen Smiley and Lindell Smiley of Bangor, Maine; Makena Corr of Anna Maria Isle, Florida and Hayden Nieburg of Kirkwood, Missouri; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: husband, Ogle; one brother, Waldo Herren; two sisters, Irene Busch and Willene Horton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the United Methodist Church, 201 N. Jefferson St., Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
