Interment: Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers: Jackie Hamlett, Austin Hamlett, Melani Hamlett, Mitchel McAfee, Maddie McAfee, Travis Hays and Lindell Ankrom.
Sylvan Wayne Hamlett passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. Wayne grew up and attended schools in the New Hartford area. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1953 and served two years active duty. Upon returning from the service, Wayne worked in the maintenance department for CE Refractories near Farber until the plant closed in 1983. He then worked for the Wayne B. Smith Construction company in Louisiana, retiring in1993. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, Cardinal baseball, old cars, gardening, keeping his lawn and vehicles looking nice and attending events involving the grandchildren.
Born: October 11, 1928 in New Hartford, Missouri the son of Sylvan and Leota Bell (Thompson) Hamlett.
Married: Della Magdalene Spires in Hannibal on August 16, 1958; she preceded him in death on June 19, 2013..
Survivors include: two sons: Randall Wayne and wife, Jean Hamlett of Owasso, Oklahoma; Joey Lee and wife, Stacy Hamlett of Vandalia; one daughter, Shelly Dawn and husband, Rick McAfee of Vandalia; one brother, Vaughn and wife, Mary Hamlett of Vandalia; five grandchildren: Jackie Hamlett and Austin Hamlett of Owasso, Oklahoma; Melani Hamlett of Vandalia; Mitchell McAfee and Maddie McAfee of Vandalia.
Preceded in death by: parents and wife, Maggie.
