Service:

Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Vandalia.
Officiating will be: Rev. Richard Smith.
Music provided by: the church choir.
Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Pallbearers: Allen Erby, Shannon Jackson, Roy McQuay, Michael Reynolds, Joe Walker and Darrel Wiser. Honorary pallbearers: Jimmie Blair, Lloyd Blair, Chico Wray, J T Thomas, Michael Matthews and Warren Thomas.

Shirley Ann (Hendrix) Rider passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at her home in Vandalia, Missouri. She attended grade school and high school at Lincoln School in Vandalia. Shirley later attended Scott Community College for additional continuing education. She had worked for several years at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia as a CNA. Shirley then moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1998 where she worked at Walgreens for one year and then went to work for High Hill Photo Studio for three years. In 2000, she went to work for Hometown Productions in the Peoria area. Shirley was also an active member of the Mother of Unity House of Prayer. She returned to Vandalia in 2010 to be closer to family. Shirley enjoyed reading, gardening, crochet and playing word puzzle games.

Born: May 11, 1941 in Bowling Green, Missouri the daughter of Charles D. and Stella Louise (Cropp) Hendrix.

Survivors include: two sons, John G. Gilkey of Smyrna, Georgia and Sam Gilkey Jr. and wife, Karen of Lees Summit, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa L. Tyson of Phoenix, Arizona; six sisters: Peggy Warren of Vandalia; Louise Blair of Montgomery City; Mary Danuser and husband Dakota of Aurora, Colorado; Barbara Clark of Vandalia; Michelle Floyd and husband, J. B. of Rock Island, Illinois and Cleo Forrest and husband, J. P. of Montgomery City; ten grandchildren: Solomon Gilkey, Terrius Tyson, Tristan Tyson, Samantha Gilkey, Theodore Tyson Jr., Jonathan Gilkey, Taylor Gilkey, Taylon Tyson, Xavier Gilkey-Bernas and Elena Gilkey-Bernas; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: parents; one brother, Edward "Butch" Ray; two sisters, Debra Sue Wray and Andrea Vanessa Wray.

Memorials are encouraged to the Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ.
