Shirley May Carlisle

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 908 E. Hwy. 54 in Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
Officiating will be: Pastor Phillip Cooper.
Music provided by: Huey Long, soloist and instrumentalist.
Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, Missouri.
Pallbearers: Thomas Carlisle, Jacob Carlisle, Kevin Murray, Josh Murray, Terry Waters and Rich Howell. Honorary pallbearers: Kristopher Grimes, Cornell Nesbitt and Lance Wheeler Sr.

Shirley May (Long) Carlisle passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. She was a resident of Vandalia for the past five years, moving here from rural Middletown. Shirley was a long-time member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, Missouri. She grew up and attended schools in the Morley, Missouri area. Shirley had worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in St. Louis for over 20 years. In 1981 she received her CNA and worked at a nursing home in Warrenton until 1985. Shirley enjoyed shopping for new clothes, cooking, entertaining and had worked with the Girl Scouts for many years.

Born: May 31, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of Roy Allen and Josephine (Lawson) Long.

Married: Coleman Irby Carlisle on July 27, 1953 in Sikeston, Missouri; he preceded her in death on March 13, 2002.

Survivors include: one son: C. Allen and wife, Lisa Carlisle of Middletown, Missouri; three daughters: Victoria L. Murray of Vandalia; Rebecca J. Spitznagel of Doniphan, Missouri; Rhonda J. and husband, Michael Tapley of Vandalia; two brothers: Huey and wife, Sarah Long of N. Pekin, Illinois; Ronnie and wife, Debbie Long of Doniphan; four sisters: Georgia and husband, Lewis Halley of Doniphan; Ruth Ann Frala of Doniphan; Joyce Benthal of Litchfield, Illinois; Terrie Jo and husband, Jeff McConnaughay of Doniphan; 11 grandchilden: Thomas Carlisle, David Gadberry, Crystal Murray, Shirlena James, Kevin Murray, Josh Murray, Alissa Tapley, Jacob Carlisle, Harlie Tapley, Cole Carlisle and Michaela Tapley; three great-grandchildren: Nathan Carlisle, Rachel Murray and Gabrielle Jones; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: husband, Coleman; two brothers: John Long and Sonny Long; three sisters: Virginia Ruth Long, Linda Long and Barbara P. Hasty.
