A visitation celebrating the life of Sandra Louise Hassien will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Waters Funeral Home.

Sandy was born on December 18, 1940, in Spencerburg, Missouri the daughter of Rex and Rose Helen (Harris) Askey.

She was united in marriage to William Saleem Hassien on March 10, 1956 in Vandalia, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1999.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara L. (Boyce) Branstetter of Vandalia, MO,  Sandra L. (Darren) Berry of Perry, MO, and Amy H. (Christian, Jr) Rost of Vandalia, MO; one son-in-law, Barry Bise; one brother, Dale Askey of Monroe City, MO; twelve grandchildren, Meredith (Adas) Jacyna, Megan (Tom) Roth, Courtney (Thomas) Ragland, Jordan (Megan) Branstetter, Mallory (Brandon) Steffen, Adam (Lona) Wood, Brandin (Darrell) Campbell, Devyn Berry, Landon Berry, Weston Berry, Avery Rost, and Sophia Rost.  She also leaves 18 great-grandchildren, one brother-in law, four sisters-in-law, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Kimberly Kay Bise, and two brothers, Robert Askey and Micheal Askey.

Sandy grew up in Vandalia and attended Vandalia Schools.  Her Garrett cousins from Jonesburg were a big part of her childhood and they shared many good times together.  She and Saleem began dating when their mothers conspired together to have Saleem tutor Sandy, who had missed a lot of school due to appendicitis.  It worked, and they were married for 43 years before he passed.  Sandy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia and sang in the church choir. She was known for her sweet singing voice, and sang at many family weddings and funerals, often singing with her brother Dale.   Sandy loved Jesus with all her heart and serving Him through her church family was very important to her.  She taught Sunday school, Bible school, and served on the funeral dinner committee.  Sandy was a devoted homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Over the years, she worked part-time at Hassien Bros. Grocery, Waters Furniture,  and as a medical office assistant for Dr. Rex Carter in Vandalia. Her family was always her priority, and spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids was what she loved the most. She loved getting the whole family together.  She and her good friend, Connie Strother, whom she called her sister, enjoyed many adventures and laughs together over their 63 years of friendship.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Adas' Jacyna, Tom Roth, Thomas Ragland, Jordan Branstetter, Adam Wood, Brandon Steffen, Landon Berry, and Weston Berry.

Honorary pallbearers will be her sons-in-law, Boyce Branstetter, Barry Bise, Darren Berry, and Christian Rost, Jr.

My aunt Sandy was a wonderful woman, with a loving heart. When I saw her she always kissed me and told me she loved me. I will never forget her and my dad singing songs and harmonizing beautifully together at family gatherings; it was one of my favorite things about the holidays.

I rejoice that Aunt Sandy is in heaven with God, and with her love, Uncle Saleem. Much love and sympathy to their children and grandchildren. I love you all so much.
