Rosemary Wright died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at Audrain Med. Center, Mexico.A lifelong Vandalia area resident, she had been a homemaker and had retired from the Bobbie Brooks Garment factory in Vandalia. Rosemary was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church near Columbia. She enjoyed reading, crochet, growing beautiful flowers, crossword puzzles and watching the St. Louis Cardinals on TV.

Born: Jan. 9, 1919 in Hannibal; Parents: James & Madge Inez Dempsey Riley.

Married: R. Sherwood Wright on June 11, 1969; he preceded her in death July 26, 1995.

Survivors include: TWO DAUGHTERS: DORIS R. HENDRICKS of MONTGOMERY CITY; CAROLYN SUE MOSS of VANDALIA; SIX GRANDCHILDREN: LUANNE HENDRICKS ANDREWS of BUELL; KENNETH H. HENDRICKS of WARRENTON; STACY MOSS WHITNEY of LEE’S SUMMIT; S. SCOTT MOSS of ANCHORAGE, AK; TERRY LOVELACE BEAUCHAMP and KIM LOVELACE ADAMS both of MEXICO; 11 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; FIVE SISTERS AND ONE BROTHER.

Wyatt D. Nolan, age 84

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vandalia.

Wyatt Nolan died at 12:50 pm in his home in Vandalia. Mr. Nolan had worked as a brick setter at Harbison-Walker Refractories for seven years, and retired in 1981 after 38 years with CE Refractories. He was a lifelong Vandalia resident and member of the First Baptist Church, Vandalia, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in the choir.

Born: March 21, 1919 in rural Middletown to William Gus and Mary Louise Putney Nolan.

Married: Leona M. Fischer on September 22, 1937 in Mexico. She survives at home.

Survivors include: one daughter, LaVonne and husband, Richard Jones, of Vandalia; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Nolan of Vandalia; one brother, Grant Nolan of Vandalia; two sisters Wilma Hopke of Laddonia and Bertha Butts of Interlachen, FL; five grandchildren, Rick and Colleen Jones of Center, Stacy and Michael Higgerson of Glen Carbon, IL, Matthew and Gayle Jones of Hannibal, Lori Gilley of Vandalia, and Natalie and Lucas Gibson of Vandalia; six great-grandchildren, Bryan and Nathan Jones, Samantha and Colton Higgerson and Nolan and Cody Gilley.

Preceded in death by: One son, Lynn Nolan; three brothers, Leonard and Marvin Cox and William Nolan Jr.; and one sister Fern Keith.

Irene Wright died at 9:04 pm at the Manor Care Center, Naples, FL. Mrs. Wright had worked as a clerk for P.N. Hirsch and Dollar Stores and had been a Vandalia and Bowling Green resident.

Born: December 24, 1909 to Gilbert and Lena Jeffries Moore of Vandalia.

Married: James McCarroll Wright on June 12, 1926 in Pleasant Hill, IL.

Survivors include: one brother, Rothwell Moore of Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Kathy Wright of Missouri, James Wright of Pennsylvania, Patti (Wright) Maloney of Texas, Ann (Wright) Crews of Florida, and Jane (Wright)Imoden of Nevada; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: Her husband, James McCarroll Wright.

Survivors include: five sons Allan E. and wife Debra Kraft of Curryville, Gordon W. and wife Patti Kraft of Denver, Dennis R. and wife Susan Kraft of Vandalia, Darryl L. and wife Judy Kraft of Vandalia, Joe Kraft of Vandalia, two daughters, Martha Leota and husband Forrest Teague of Vandalia, Phyllis Ann and husband Eddie Bigelow of Laddonia, three sisters, Lahoma Freeman of Lavernia, Texas,Thelma Shephard of Laverne, Oklahoma, Velma Truitt of Elkhart, Kansas, three sisters-in-law, Martha Wright of Vandalia, Marie Rutherford of Montgomery City and Geneva Moore of Rush Hill, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Born: June 16, 1923 in Naylor, MO; Parents: Horace & Dora Himby Reddick.

Married: Malcolm L. Dowell on Aug. 28, 1941 near Center; he survives at the home.

Mable F. James died Monday, at 9 p.m., Aug. 4, 2003 at St. Peters Manor Care Center, St. Peters. A lifelong resident of the Vandalia area, she had been a homemaker on the family farm south of Vandalia and had been a presser at the Ely Walker Garment factory. She enjoyed embroidery and gardening.

Born: Nov. 8, 1912 in rural Pike county; Parents: Wiley & Dora Elizabeth Trower Rickard.

Married: Jesse B. James on Oct. 5, 1935 in Louisiana; he preceded her in death Sept. 1979.

Survivors include: ONE SON: ROGER & wife JOAN JAMES of ST. CHARLES; ONE SISTER: MARY RECTOR of VANDALIA; TWO GRANDCHILDREN: APRIL & husband ROBERT BIEHL of WENTZVILLE; RACHEL & husband DALE HINTON JR. of ELSBERRY; ONE GREAT-GRANDSON: ZACHARY HINTON.

Hazel L. Jackson died at 5:15 p.m., Monday, July 28th at the Tri-County Care Center, Vandalia. She was a homemaker, and had worked as a seamstress at Ely Walker Garment factory. A lifelong resident of Vandalia, she was a member of the First Christian Church, Vandalia, where she helped in the Women's Ministry and Sunday school. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and crochet.

Born: Jan. 27, 1906 in rural Vandalia; Parents: Otho & Katie Butler Henderson.

Married: Jack G. Jackson on June 20, 1923 in Paris, MO; he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1986.

A lifelong resident of Vandalia, she was a member of the Second Christian Church, and enjoyed cooking, crochet, and puzzle books. She graduated from Van-Far High School in 1976.

Alvin Burnett
died at 3:55 a.m., Friday, July 4th at his home. Mr. Burnett had farmed all of his life north of Vandalia, and was a lifelong resident thereof. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vandalia; past member of the Business & Professional Men's club; had been active in 4-H; enjoyed bowling and fishing. Mr. Burnett was a Vandalia High School graduate.

Born: Oct. 27, 1924 in rural Vandalia; Parents: Paul Phillip & Gertrude Potter Burnett.

Married: Carol Jean Winders on May 22, 1949 in Hannibal; she preceded him Apr. 28, 1995.

Survivors include: Two Sons: Rick and wife Carla Burnett of Farber; Rodney and wife Nancy Burnett of Vandalia; One Brother: Marvin Burnett of Vandalia; Four Grandchildren: Angela Rentfro; Patrick and Benny Burnett; Allison Vaughan; Two Greatgrandchildren: Preston and Paiyton Burnett; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Dakota Reading
died at approximately 9:25 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident in Bowling Green. He was a third grade student at Van-Far Elementary School., and had resided in rural Vandalia for the past seven years. Dakota attended Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Cub Scout Pack 54, and enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler, swimming, fishing, and soccer.
