Service:

Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
Officiating will be: Pastor Adam Finney.
Music provided by:
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Brett Bishop, Travis Bryant, Caleb Dyke, Zachary Nichols, Tyler Nichols and Troy Curtis. Honorary pallbearers: Ashley Curtis, Lauren Bishop, Bethany Bishop, Paige Bishop, Makayla Yager, Mackenzie Yager, Karina Yager, Candice Bontz and Monica Nichols.

Phyllis Louise (Martin) Bontz passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville, Missouri. Phyllis moved to Montgomery City with her mother in 1945 from Wichita, having lost her father in World War II. She was a 1960 graduate of Montgomery County R-II High School and then attended beautician school in Jefferson City. She worked for several years at a beauty shop in New Florence and was a full-time homemaker on the family farm. Phyllis also sold Stanley Home Products and was an Avon consultant for many years. She also raised various small breed dogs on the farm, but retired due to her health in 2004. Phyllis was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she had also been active in the Women's Guild. She was a member of the D. A. R., helped instruct various classes for the local 4-H club, was a census worker and helped at the election polls. Phyllis enjoyed hobbies of crochet, crafts, embroidery, reading and attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren through the years.

Born: January 8, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of Philip John and Rhoda Louise (Fischer) Martin.

Married: Charles Arthur Bishop on June 11, 1961 in Montgomery City, Missouri; she then married Calvin Smith Bontz on July 31, 1985 in Montgomery City.

Survivors include: her mother, Rhoda of Montgomery City; husband, Calvin of rural Curryville; two sons: C. Matt and wife, Barbara Bishop of Wellsville; Philip A. and wife, Bessie Bishop of Hannibal; two daughters: Mitzi S. and husband, Tom Nichols and Peggi L. and husband, Greg Yager all of Montgomery City; one step-daughter, Margie Bontz of Bowling Green, Missouri; also survived by 13 grandchildren: Ashley Curtis, Brett Bishop, Lauren Bishop, Bethany Bishop, Travis Bryant, Caleb Dyke, Paige Bishop, Zachary Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Makayla Yager, Mackenzie Yager, Karina Yager and Candice Bontz.

Preceded in death by: father and one brother, William Joseph Martin who died in infancy.

Memorials are encouraged to St. John Lutheran Church in Vandalia or to the Alzheimer's Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, Missouri 65201.
