Friday, April 2, 2004 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia, Missouri.
Service:

Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia, Missouri.
Officiating will be: Rev. Bob Hoehn.
Music provided by: Ruth and Elisabeth Nation - vocalists; Shirley Forgy - pianist.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: William R. Nation, Christopher Nation, Harold Fowler, Wade Belts, Leroy Breneman and Lloyd Galloway.

Ophus Shoemate died peacefully at 12:12 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. Mr. Shoemate had farmed in the Liberty and Spencer Creek areas for over 50 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Spencer Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed playing cards with the local Loafer's Club. .

Born: November 13, 1898 in Licking, Missouri the son of Marion and Nancy (Pewitt) Shoemate.

Married: Jennie Done Simpson on October 29, 1921 in New London; she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1990.

Survivors include: one daughter, Doris I. and husband, William T. Nation of rural Vandalia; one grandson, William R. and wife, Ruth Nation of rural Vandalia; two great-grandchildren, Elisabeth and Christopher Nation of rural Vandalia; one nephew, Leroy Breneman of Vandalia; one niece, Dorothy Barnett of Phoenix, Arizona.

Preceded in death by: wife, Jennie; one son, Ophus Shoemate Jr. who died at birth; one brother, Otis Shoemate and one sister, Verda Breneman Dixon.

Memorials may be made to Spencer Creek Baptist Church.
