Minnie Fern Brookshier

April 1, 1929 — September 30, 2020

Minnie Fern Brookshier, age 91, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 8:12 am Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia. Pastor Mark Phelps will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery following the service.

A visitation celebrating the life of Minnie Fern Brookshier will be held at 10:00 am until the time of service Saturday October 3, 2020 at the Waters Funeral Home.

Minnie was born on April 1, 1929, in Center, Missouri the daughter of Neal and Neva (Cowden) Wasson.

She was united in marriage to Leslie Brookshier on January 13, 1948. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2012.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean (Curt) Athey of Yuma, AZ; one son, Stephen Brookshier of Vandalia, MO; eight grandchildren, Jon (Michelle) Athey, Susan (Brian) Edwards, Shawn Brookshier, Steve (Tracy) Brookshier, Megan (Lacy) Roberts, Shane (Connie) Brookshier, Scott Brookshier and Sally Brookshier; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ann Wasson and many other loved family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Alan Brookshier; brothers, Donald Wasson and James Wasson; sister, Dorothy Thompson and daughter-in-law, Elaine Brookshier.

Fern graduated from Vandalia High School class of 1947 and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia.

Fern was a fantastic seamstress, she loved hunting, fishing, camping, yard work and listening to music. She was an avid bowler wining several trophies, plaques and patches in different tournaments. She loved kids and enjoyed spending time babysitting them and was known for making the best mac and cheese.

Pallbearers will be Jon Athey, Susan Edwards, Shawn Brookshier, Steve Brookshier, Megan Roberts, Shane Brookshier, Scott Brookshier and Sally Brookshier.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago IL 60601.
