Michael Hechler, age 71, of Vandalia MO, passed away at 2:42 pm, June 25, 2023, at his home.
Services and celebration of life memorial will be held at his home on October 14, 2023, with full military honors and ash spreading ceremony. 10:00 AM property opens, 11:00 AM Services, 12:00 PM food served, and celebration of life to follow.
Michael was born on July 31, 1951, in Louisiana Missouri, the son of George E. Hechler and Virginia (Stuller) Hechler.
Michael is survived by his sister; Carolyn Stillwell of Utah, Nephew; Gabe Hechler of Ocean View, HI, Great Nephew; George Hechler and Great Niece; Geneva Hechler, both of Ocean View HI. Numerous cousins
He is preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother; Donald Hechler.
He attended Van Far Schools and graduated in 1969. Michael attended Linn Tech and received his engineering degree. He then joined the Army and retired after 20 years of service as a Combat Engineer, Master Sergeant. There will be full military honors at the time of service.
After Michaels retirement, he returned to the Vandalia area and purchased property near Center Missouri where he lived until his death. He cared for his mother, Virginia in her time need until her death as well as his father George and his aunt Lula.
He was proud of his service and spoke often of the time he spent in Germany, where he absolutely loved. Michael was inducted to the Engineer Hall of Fame in Fort Leonard wood Missouri where his name is proudly displayed.
Michael enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He truly adored his nephew Gabe and family and claimed them as his own. Michael will truly be missed by all.
