Melvin A DeVault

Melvin A DeVault, 90, of Vandalia, MO formally of Washington, MO passed away at 2:05 am Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. 

Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Waters Funeral Home. 

Melvin was born on August 7, 1928, in Robertsville, Missouri the son of Floyd Peter and Silverine DeVault.

He was united in marriage to Laverne Bates in July of 1947. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include Son, Melvin V. DeVault of Seattle, WA; Special Friend, Dorothy A Brandt of Vandalia, MO; Sister, Mary C. Elam of Maple Heights, OH; Step-Son, John (Gwyn) Harrington of Warrensburg, MO; Step-Son, Ronald (Emily) Brandt of Montgomery City, MO; Step-Daughter, Diona (David) Davis of Vandalia, MO; Step-Daughter, Alicia (Kendell) Brandt of St. Louis, MO, two grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Son, Rodney DeVault; Brother, Floyd DeVault; Sister, Jean Daniels.

Melvin worked as a custodian/bus driver for the Washington Missouri Public School District. He was an avid hunter, loved riding horses, swimming, ice skating and traveling. Melvin's biggest love was his family especially his grandkids.

I was so very blessed to have Mel for my bus driver growing up. Mel was the BEST, he always brighten my day! Ill always hold a special place in my heart for Mel.

Mr. Devault was my bus driver all through elementary school. He was a great person. I miss his school bus mail box that he had when he lived in Washington. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Mel. He was my bus driver during the 80s, and several years ago he was the monitor on the school bus I drove and to top that off it was the same route that he had driven years ago. He was a sweet man and will be greatly missed.

I just want to let aunt Dorothy know that she,as well as all of the family, has my deepest and most sincerest sympathy ! Uncle Melvin was a special guy and will always be remembered and respected by me. He was always very hospitable and welcoming to me and i'll always remember his smile and that twinkle in his eyes ! May God bless his soul !
