Service:

Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Vandalia, Missouri.
Officiating will be: Rev. Jeffrey Mims.
Music provided by: special music by various soloists.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Timmy Letcher, Joseph Overton, Justin Overton, Joe Walker, Walter Salmon and James Andrea Salmon.

Martha I. (Bell) Overton passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. Matha grew up in the Ashley, Missouri and attended Pike County schools. After her marriage to Sherman Overton, she worked for many years as a seamstress at the Bobby Brooks garment factory in Vandalia and the HTI Garment factory. Martha was a full-time homemaker and enjoyed as her hobbies cooking, fishing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Vandalia for many years.

Born: June 27, 1934 in Ashley, Missouri the daughter of Herman and Sallie Marie (Parsons) Bell.

Married: Sherman Overton Jr. on May 11, 1956 in Bowling Green, Missouri; he preceded her in death on September 7, 2007.

Survivors include: four sons: Wm. "Tony" and wife, Cathy Overton of Vandalia; Timothy W. Overton of Clayton, Missouri; Sherman III and wife, Twila Overton of Mexico, Missouri; Elmo L. Overton of Columbia, Missouri; two daughters: Mona and husband, Gregory Hale of Vandalia; Stephanie Terrell of Vandalia; four sisters: Mageline Tuggle of Van Nuys, California; Floretta Hendrix of University City, Missouri; Opal Elder of Bowling Green, Missouri and Shirley Willis also of Bowling Green; one sister-in-law: Pearline Bell of Peoria, Illinois; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: husband, Sherman; two brothers: Everett Frederick Bell and Herman Eugene Bell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 314 S. Taylor Street, Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
