Vandalia

 

Lora Helen Moore, age 95, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 10:00 am Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana Mo.

 

Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church of Vandalia on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 am. Jamie Franke will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.

 

Visitation celebrating Lora “Helen” Moore will be held at 10:00 am until the time of service.  Memorials will be given to the Vandalia First Christian Church.

 

Helen was born on January 31, 1928, in Vandalia, Missouri the daughter of Roy Andrew Robinson and Lora (Benn) Robinson.

 

Helen graduated from Vandalia high school in 1946 and was united in marriage to Carl Moore in 1949. Carl survives her in death.  They lived in the house that Carl started building on their farm north of Vandalia a year before they got married for the entire 72 years of their marriage. In this home they raised their four boys: Bill, Bob, Steve and Ron.

 

Survivors include Husband, Carl Moore of Vandalia. Four Sons, Billy (Kelly) Moore of Columbia, MO, Bobby (Sharon) Moore of Hannibal MO, Stephen Moore of Vandalia and Ronald (Terry) Moore of Vandalia MO; Four Granddaughters, Amanda (Gary) Nerone of Springfield IL, Sarah Moore of Springfield IL, Katie (Jeff) Moore of Springfield IL, Tyra (Greg) Goss of Ankeny IA; Three Grandsons, Jared (Katrina) Moore of Alexandria VA, Kit Moore of Springfield IL and Connor (Emma) Moore of Sioux Falls SD plus numerous Great-Grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Moore and Betty Wood. Two brothers; Roy Robinson and Bill Robinson.

 

Professionally, Helen worked for the Bowling Green State School for the Mentally Disabled where she drove a bus and worked as a Teachers Aide. Earlier, she worked at Goodin’s Variety Store, worked as a Vandalia telephone operator and at Stark Bro Nursery in Louisiana. The rest of her time was spent raising the four boys and helping on the farm. Helen also volunteered her time at the Vandalia First Christian Church as a Sunday School teacher, youth worker and was also involved in many church activities.

 

In her free time Helen enjoyed spending time with her two sisters, Ruth and Betty, her sons, daughter-in-law’s, grandchildren, sewing, jig-saw puzzles and playing Rummikub.

 

Her life was full and blessed which made her very happy and satisfied. God is good!
