Linda Jean Hicks

Linda Jean Hicks, age 75, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 8:40 pm on November 4, 2023, at the Tri-County Care Center.

A visitation celebrating Linda's life will be held 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Waters Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Brian Lehenbauer officiating.  Private family burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.

Linda was born February 20,1948, in Mexico, the daughter of Forrest Lee and Velma Inez (Waters) Anderson. On October 9, 1971, she was united in marriage to William Joe “Bill” Hicks. 

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Culwell of Vandalia; one son, Mark and wife Jill Hicks of Hannibal; four grandchildren, Riley Culwell of Bowling Green, Kaylen Culwell of Wright City, Sophie and Maggie Hicks of Hannibal; brother, Larry Anderson of Vandalia and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, James Edwin “Eddie” Anderson and son-in-law, Tom Culwell. 

Linda was a lifelong Vandalia resident and a 1966 Van-Far High School graduate. After high school, Linda worked at the Bobbie Brooks garment factory before becoming a homemaker. In 1983, Linda became a babysitter, dividing her time with being a homemaker and providing care for area children. Linda remained in that capacity until her retirement.  Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia. 

Memorials may be made to the Tri-County Care Center or Community Loving Care Hospice, in care of the Waters Funeral Home.
