Larry Thomas Helton passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at his home in Vandalia after a long illness. He grew up and attended schools in Nebraska. Larry graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor of arts degree in history. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the combat infantryman badge and purple heart. Larry was a Catholic by faith, practiced the martial arts and studied Zen Buddhism. He worked for many years at the Lincoln Journal-Star Newspaper in Lincoln, Nebraska before he and his wife Janet moved to Vandalia in 1998.

Born: December 25, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Lloyd Thomas and Garnet (Holliday) Helton.

Married: Janet H. Armstrong on June 27, 1987 in Lincoln, Nebraska; she survives at the home.

Survivors include: wife, Janet of the home; one half-brother: Orville Dunlap of Vibernum, Missouri; also survived by several cousins in Missouri.

Preceded in death by: parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the donor's choice.
