James Leroy Mitts passed away at 3:07 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia. He grew up in the Colton, California area and was a 1963 graduate of Colton High School. After working for a few years in a family dairy business, James joined the U S Army and served overseas in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. Upon his return from the service, James apprenticed and became a mason. He worked on union construction projects, primarily in commercial building construction. James had done some freelance masonry work both in California and here in Missouri. He moved to Farber in late 2003 and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping in his free time.

Born: October 11, 1945 in San Bernadino, California the son of Claude and Mary Grace (Wear) Mitts Jr.

Survivors include: his companion of many years, Melva Hamilton of Farber; one son, James B. and wife, Dianna Mitts of Aurora, Missouri; three daughters: Patty, Doris and Dana Sinney; one brother, David Michael Mitts of Eugene, Oregon; three sisters: Claudia Liewski of Yucca Valley, California; Marlyn Kay Cook of Farber; Ruby Jeanine Lowrey of Fountain Valley, California; four grandchildren; Douglas James Mitts, Matthew Darren Mitts, Sierra Sinney and Mason Sinney.

Preceded in death by: his parents.
