Service:

Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel, 500 S. Main Street in Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
Officiating will be: Rev. William Groennert and Rev. Janet Morgan.
Music provided by: Sharon Hoehn - pianist.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Terry McDannold, Keith McDannold, Adam McDannold and Lucas McDannold.

Ione Catherine (Mabry) McDannold passed away at 10:30 p.m. Thursday evening, August 6, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospice House in St. Louis. She grew up in the Vandalia area and moved with her husband during his teaching career. They returned to Vandalia in 1964 and made their home on south Elm Street. Ione was a high school graduate and attended Missouri University. She taught elementary school for three years in the same school system at Ashland, Missouri, where Leon was superintendent of schools. Ione was active in the United Methodist Church and she enjoyed reading, sewing, growing flowers, playing cards with friends and traveling.

Born: February 26, 1910 in Vandalia, Missouri the daughter of Durward F. and Cora Della (Doyle) Mabry.

Married: Lonnie Leon McDannold in Mexico, Missouri on December 21, 1930; he preceded her in death on December 15, 1999.

Survivors include: one son: William J. and wife, Rebecca McDannold of Columbia, Illinois; one nephew: Lester Wright; three grandchildren: Terry J. and wife, Mary McDannold of Ballwin, Missouri; Keith D. and wife, Christine McDannold of Branson, Missouri; Amy R. and husband, Brian Poole of Columbia, Illinois; three step-grandchildren: Laura D. Stock of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Cynthia J. and husband Per Austreng of Bloomington, Minnesota; M. Gail and husband, Jim Moore of Carrollton, Texas; nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; one sister, Naomi Marie Myers; one brother, Kester Leon Mabry and one nephew, Kester Wright.

The family encourages memorials be made to the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 201 N. Jefferson Street, Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
