Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service held at 8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel, 500 S. Main Street in Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
Service:

Friday, May 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia, Missouri.
Officiating will be: Father Russell Judge.
Music provided by: church choir.
Interment will be in the St. Clement Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Darien Rentfro, Brent Rentfro, Keith Rentfro, Allen McBride, Thom Spradling and Jonathon Spradling. Honorary pallbearers: J. E. Cragen, Rex Cragen, Dean & Shirley Maxwell, Eddie Bybee and Charlie Bigelow.

Herbert Wayne Hill passed away at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. Herb was a lifelong Vandalia area resident and attend Vandalia schools. After school, he worked as a truck driver for Hall and Jerman Elevator from 1956 until 1963. In April 1963 he started working for Harbison Walker Refractories in Vandalia and worked in the maintenance department for most of his career. Herb retired from Harbison Walker in September 2004. Since the late 1970's, Herb had also done custom welding for many in the area. He was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Vandalia Cemetery Association Board and member of the Union Local 853. Herb enjoyed gardening and welding, playing bingo, watching NASCAR and stock car races and attending tractor pulls.

Born: October 28, 1938 in rural Vandalia the son of James Rollin and Alta Jane (Cragen) Hill.

Married: Ruth Ann Luebbers on November 22, 1962 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia, Missouri; she survives at the home.

Survivors include: wife, Ruth of rural Vandalia; one son: Michael C. and wife, Amy Hill of Columbia, Missouri; two daughters: Susan M. and husband, Tony Potts of Charlotte, North Carolina and Cami A. and husband, Al Blackman of rural Vandalia; one sister: Velma J. and husband, Jim Rentfro of Vandalia; three grandchildren: Emma Grace Potts of Charlotte, NC; Elizabeth Ann Hill and Lucas Michael Hill both of Columbia.

Preceded in death by: parents.
