George Travis

George Thomas Travis, Jr., age 71, of Elizabethtown, KY passed away at 1:00 am Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his home.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will follow at the Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation celebrating George will be held at 9:00 am until 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Waters Funeral Home. 

George was born on December 28, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri the son of George and Margaret (Black) Travis. He was united in marriage to Rhonda Fowler on April 23, 1977, at the First Baptist Church in Vandalia, Missouri. They were married for 42 years prior to her passing in 2019. Survivors include: his son, Justin (Lori) Travis of Elizabethtown, KY; brothers, Guy Travis and Daniel Travis; sisters, Margaret Jaspering and Anna Pudiwitr; and one granddaughter, Amelia Travis. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda; one Sister, Roberta Dudley; Father, George Travis, Sr. and Mother, Margaret (Black) Travis. George graduated from Troy Buchanan High School in 1970. 

Professionally George owned a Snap-On Tools Franchise for many years. Prior to that he worked at his father-in-law’s Sinclair station, Fowler Oil Company. He was also an auto mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. During his free time, he made many memories with his son, Justin. They enjoyed restoring Justin’s first car, a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle, and taking it to car shows and drag racing at MidAmerica Raceway. They were both fans of baseball and rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2020, George moved to Elizabethtown, KY to be closer to his son and his family. He enjoyed being able to spend more time with his granddaughter, Amelia, and watching her perform in her dance recitals.

Pall Bearers will be Adolph Ogar, Allen Nelson, Craig George, Curtis Fischer, David Ruhl and Ronald Dudley.
