Gene W. Thompson

Gene W. Thompson, age 66, of Vandalia, MO passed away at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 4:43 pm.  

A visitation celebrating the life of Gene W. Thompson will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday September 21, 2020 at the Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Waters Funeral Home.

Gene was born on August 22, 1954, in Denver, Colorado the son of Lawrence and Carol (Robbins) Thompson.

He was united in marriage to Diane Jennings on November 28, 2003 in Vandalia, MO. She survives him of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Marie Thompson of Hico, TX, Joe (Robyn) Jennings of Vandalia, Joni (Brandon) Barnett of Vandalia, Jamie (Donald) Kirk of Mexico, MO, one brother, Ed (Jackie) Thompson of Denver, CO, one sister, Linda (Ken) Brees of Denver, CO, eighteen grandchildren and many other loved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Thompson.

Gene graduated from Ranum High School in Denver, CO class of 1973. Professionally Gene worked as a Brick Mason for the Union Brick Layers Local 15.

Gene was an avid outdoorsman spending his time hunting, fishing and camping. He loved classic vehicles and enjoyed taking his old truck to cruises and shows. Gene was a social person and enjoyed visiting with friends, playing card games especially cribbage but he was happiest when he was with his family.
