Dr. Earl Richard "Bud" Cordry passed away at 4:17 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. He was born in St. Louis but grew up and attended schools in Hannibal. After graduating high school in 1939, he was drafted to serve in World War II in the Pacific Theatre in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Missouri on the GI Bill. He earned his Bachelor's in Education and briefly taught high school science in Troy, Missouri. Earl then went back to college and earned his optometry degree in 1953 from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He met his wife, Marcia while in Optometry School. After their marriage, they moved to Vandalia where they owned and operated an optometry practice for nearly 45 years before retiring in 1998. Bud enjoyed being active in the community where he was a longtime and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church. In the church, he was active in the choir and had served as a deacon and an elder. Bud also had lengthy memberships in the Vandalia Rotary Club, a charter member of the Vandalia Flying Club and life member of Vandalia VFW Post 2173.

Born: September 12, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Earl E. and Dorothy (Becker) Cordry.

Married: Marcia Jeanne Masson on June 19, 1954 in Washington, Iowa; she preceded him in death on February 4, 2005.

Survivors include: two sons: Daniel and wife, Huong Cordry of St. Louis and David and wife, Lynda Cordry of Columbia; one brother, Jim and wife, Margaret Cordry of Hannibal; two grandsons, Bryce Cordry of Columbia and Jonathon Phan of Los Angeles.

Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Marcia; one sister, Jessie Lou Cordry; three brothers: Burton, Kenneth and Lee Cordry.

Memorials are encouraged to the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia or the YMCA of the Rockies of Estes Park, Colorado.
