Officiating will be: Rev. Jeffrey Mims.
Music provided by: Clarice Cannon - pianist.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Relatives & friends.

Dorothy Alcena (Parsons) Givens passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. She was a longtime area resident and a graduate of Lincoln School in the class of 1935. Alcena was a licensed beautician for many years; a student of Madame C. J. Walker of Kansas City. She then attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, with an interest in early childhood education. For several years, she taught and loved children. Alcena was a devoted wife who traveled extensively with her husband for many years in his ministry. She was also a lifetime member of the Second Baptist Church in Vandalia. Alcena loved cooking, keeping a beautiful home and her flower and vegetable gardens.

Born: April 29, 1917 in rural Pike County, Missouri near Hartford the daughter of Clem Marthon and Mary Bell (Carter) Parsons.

Married: William A. Givens on October 25, 1947 in Hannibal; he preceded her in death on October 7, 2012.

Survivors include: one devoted brother, Mython Leon Parsons of Battle Creek, Michigan, a frequent visitor to Alcena; one sister-in-law, Carolyn G. Parks of Aurora, Colorado along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Bill.

Memorials are encouraged to the Second Baptist Church in Vandalia.
