Dale Edward Askey, age 82, of Vandalia, MO formerly of Monroe City, MO passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Baptist Homes of Tri-County in Vandalia.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Vandalia Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on Dale's memorial page at www.watersfuneral.com starting a few minutes before 11:00 am.

Visitation celebrating Dale's life will be held at 9:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday at the Southside Baptist Church.

The family is being served by the Waters Funeral Home of Vandalia.

Dale was born on January 23, 1943, in Vandalia, MO the son of Rex Edward and Helen Rose (Harris) Askey.

He was united in marriage to Bonny McDannold on April 9. 1964, at Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia, she preceded him death on December 31, 2020. Dale was united in marriage to Lorene Syler on March 19, 2022, at Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia. She survives him.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene of the home; son, David (Leigh Ann) Askey of Hannibal, MO; daughter, Kelly (George) Askey Lodes of Ballwin, MO; stepdaughters, Deborah (Joe) Salois of Vandalia, MO and Lisa (Lynn) McCallister of Little Rock, AR; sister-in-law, Lynne (James) Richmond of Moberly, MO; grandchildren, James (Juliette) Nahrgang, Paul (Sydney) Nahrgang, Parker (Ellen) Nahrgang, Alec (Ali) Askey, Chase Askey, Hannah (Dylan) Carpenter, Caty Bier, Sarah (Dane) Rader, George Lodes, III (Camie Vitale), Jeff (Gina) Salois, Mathew Salois, Charlie T. West and Joshua Daniel West; seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews other loved family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife Bonny, Mr. Askey was preceded in death by his siblings, Bob Askey, Mike Askey and Sandy Hassien; and a great granddaughter, Eden Nahrgang.

Dale graduated from Vandalia High School in 1961. Upon graduation, Dale went to Barber School and worked in Vandalia for over 10 years as a Barber, before moving to Monroe City where he and Bonny purchased the Western-Auto store and operated it for several years. Dale also did Taxidermy on the side, along with "Cottage Tapes" recording and distributing musical tapes with his wife. Dale also owned and operated Dale's TV's Sales and Service. He also worked for Moorman Manufacturing before his retirement from Diemakers in the IT department.

Dale was an athlete that was part of the 1961 Basketball Championship team at Vandalia. He was also very competitive at golf, tennis and table tennis. In his free time, he enjoyed flying his ultra-light plane, gardening, fishing, photography, computers and big band music.

Faith and music were another one of Dale's loves. He and Bonny were members and the Music Directors at the First Baptist Church of Monroe City for several years until her death. After Bonny's death, Dale moved back to his hometown of Vandalia and was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be James Nahrgang, Paul Nahrgang, Parker Nahrgang, Alec Askey, Chase Askey and Dylan Carpenter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southside Baptist Church or Community Loving Care Hospice, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
