Charles Frederick Holman passed away at 12:31 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Charles was a lifelong Vandalia resident. He attended Lincoln elementary school in Vandalia and was a 1950 graduate of the Garfield High School in Mexico, Missouri. While in high school he helped at a local farm. Charles was drafted into the Army in March of 1953, serving until March of 1955. He was employed at Harbison Walker for 47 years and retired in March of 1988. Charles was a long-time member, elder and deacon of the Second Christian Church in Vandalia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Charles was known to most people as "Chan." To all he came across, he left a lasting impression. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone he came across. Charles was always willing to sing a solo when asked. His favorite song was, "I Won't Complain."

Born: February 7, 1933 in Vandalia, the son of Albert Lee and Mary Elizabeth (McPike) Holman.

Married: Imogene Minnie Douglas on September 15, 1954 in Vandalia; she preceded him in death on May 27, 2016.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sheila Ann Owens of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Helen Holman of Vandalia; three grandchildren: Felicia C. and husband, Larry Liddell of Omaha; Relonda N. Owens of Omaha; Charles E. Owens and Jessica Anderson of Norfolk, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren: Reagan Anderson, Braylon Owens, Charlize Owens and Journey Owens; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Imogene; two brothers: Robert and Clarence Holman; two sisters: Hazel Acuff and Jean Shelton.


Memorials are encouraged to the Second Christian Church in Vandalia.
