Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Service:

Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be: Rev. Joel Montgomery and Rev. Donald Neely.
Music provided by: selected favorite country gospel songs.
Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers: Cole Barney, Waylon Barney, Gage Barney, Jeff Robbins, Jason Robbins and Jordan Robbins. Honorary Pallbearers: Roy and Shirley Fishback, Dean Wilson and Paul Kirtlink.

Charles Wayne Barney passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. Charles grew up and attended schools in Vandalia, graduating from Vandalia High School with the class of 1949. During that year, he was also named All-State in basketball. He was drafted into the U. S. Marine Corps in 1952 and served his country for two years, being discharged in 1954 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. After returning back from his military service, Charles relocated to Iowa where he was working for the John Deere Company in Waterloo. It was while working in Iowa that Charles met and married Thelma Ann Barnhart in Greene, Iowa. They moved to Kirksville, Missouri where Charles worked numerous jobs until returning to Ralls County, Missouri in 1957 and was a prominent farmer and cattleman until he retired in 1996. Charles was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years where he had served as both an elder and deacon. He had also served on the MFA board and the Farm Bureau board. Charles was an avid Cardinal baseball fan, enjoyed playing bingo and traveling. His favorite hobby was working his livestock and helping on the farm.

Born: January 23, 1931 in Tebbetts, Missouri the son of Charles Aubrey and Nina Marie (Middleton) Barney.

Married: Thelma Ann Barnhart on July 15, 1956 in Greene, Iowa; she preceded him in death on July 6, 1997. He married Claudia Frances (Montermand) Hamlett on December 16, 1998 in Las Vegas.

Survivors include: wife, Claudia of Bowling Green; one son, Michael W. and wife, Kim Barney of rural Perry; one daughter, Lori A. and husband, Steve Landuyt of Columbia, Missouri; two step-daughters, Linda J. Robbins of Laddonia, Missouri and Lori L. Danella of Lee's Summit, Missouri; also survived by three grandsons: Cole Barney, Waylon Barney and Gage Barney, seven step-grandsons and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Thelma; one step-grandson.

Memorials are encouraged to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
