Charlene Louise Marshall

September 23, 1940 — February 6, 2022

Charlene Louise Marshall, age 81, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 1:33 pm Sunday, February 6, 2022, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Waters Funeral Home.  Rev. Melvin McCaleb will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. 

Visitation celebrating Charlene's life will be held at 10:00 am until the time of the service Wednesday at the Waters Funeral Home. 

Charlene was born on September 23, 1940, in Russellville, AR the daughter of Paul Christopher and Daffron Lola (Givens) Shotton.

She was united in marriage to Guy Edward Marshall on May 27, 1978, in Bowling Green, MO.  He preceded her in death on August 9, 2010. 

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Louise McCune (Greg) of Kingdom City, MO, Patricia Lee Stathem (Jeff) of Mexico, MO  and Judith Elaine Francis (Rick) of Louisiana, MO; brother, Charles Shotten of Bowling Green, MO; sisters, Faith Wine (Jamie) of Berryville, VA, Hope Terry (Rocky) of Edinburg, VA, and Charity Terry of Manassas, VA; grandchildren, Katie Slane (Chris) of Albion, IL, Erin Senor (Tony) of Mexico, MO, Jeffery Stathem of Holladay, UT, Amy O'neal (James) of Columbia, MO, Audrey Penberthy (David) of Cottleville, MO, Heather Beaty (William) of Foristell, MO, David Francis (Brandii) of Vandalia, MO, Emily Francis of Louisiana, MO, Elizabeth Francis of Springfield, MO, Daniel Francis of Louisiana, MO, Mackenzie Lasater (Anthony) of Russellville, MO and Kearston Short of Wardsville, MO; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Shotton; sisters, Susie Jones, and Betty Leson; granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Francis; and grandson, Lucas Wayne Branstetter. 

Charlene had previously worked as a seamstress for Bobbie Brooks and Bill Blass.  Charlene attended LPN school in Mexico, MO and worked at Tri-County Nursing Home where she enjoyed taking care of the residents.  Charlene later retired from Harbison-Walker as a towmotor operator.

Away from work, Charlene enjoyed Arts.  She was a very talented Acrylic Painter and had won several awards over the years for amazing paintings.  She was a member of the Raintree Arts Council and the Quincy Arts Council.  She also enjoyed the fellowship of her Monday Bible Study Club.  Mrs. Marshall was also very talented at sewing.  She had made several of her children and grandchildren's clothes.  Shopping was another trait that Charlene had and enjoyed going on shopping trips with her daughters.  Charlene had a green thumb when it came to gardening.  She loved canning the fruits of her labor, and was known for making the best homemade Jam and Jelly's.  Her biggest love was her family and the time spent with them she cherished the most.

Charlene was a faithful member of the Second Christian Church of Vandalia.

Pallbearers will be Rick Francis, Daniel Francis, David Francis, Jeffery Stathem, Chris Slane, David Penberthy, James O'neal and Jeff Stathem.

Memorial contributions may be made to Second Christian Church, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
