He was valedictorian of the 1936 class from Stoutsville High School before attending two years at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri. Bryan received a teaching degree and taught at Mt. Pleasant country school district for three years before joining the U. S. Army. He enjoyed many hobbies, one of his favorites was umpiring Little League ballgames. Bryan also was a wonderful gardener, sharing his fresh vegetables and strawberries with friends and neighbors each summer. Like Will Rogers, Bryan "never met a stranger". He enjoyed visiting with everyone and for several years was a member of the morning coffee group that met at the Vandalia Drug Store. When Delphine became an invalid, he spent more time at home lovingly caring for her until her death in 2003. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members.
