Betty Jean (Peabody) Trower

Betty Jean (Peabody) Trower, age 95, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 6:06 am Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Baptist Home Tri-County in Vandalia.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2025, at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Dalton will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vandalia.

Visitation celebrating Betty's life will be held at 10:00 am until the time of the service Friday at the Waters Funeral Home.

Betty was born on June 11, 1930, near Curryville, MO to Thomas Ray and Helen (Copenhaver) Peabody. She was an only child. She attended Woodlawn country school and graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1948. She was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church, south of Curryville, and later joined the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia where she was member of the Beacon Sunday School Class.

Betty married Donald Edwin Trower on September 10, 1950, at the home of her parents. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. Donald preceded her in death on October 30, 2001.

Betty worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Bowling Green as a operator for 5 years and the City of Vandalia as the Utility Clerk for 17 years. She was Boy Scout den mother and enjoyed many years of camping and fishing in Branson and Hannibal with Don and family members.

Betty is survived by one son, Donald (Eddie) Edwin Trower, Jr. and wife Pat (Ray) Trower of Vandalia; a grandson, Spencer Eli Tower of St. Louis; a granddaughter, Meredith Davis of Vandalia; a grandson, Donnie Rubemeyer of Wellsville; and four great-grandchildren, twins Brogan and Brennon Wheeler, Braylon Davie and Maizie Davis, all of Vandalia.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Trower was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Trower Rubemeyer.

Pallbearers will be George Copenhaver, Spencer Tower, Brennon Wheeler, Brogan Wheeler, Braylon Davis and Mike Ray.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia or the Baptist Home Tri-County, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
