Barbara Elaine Holman

Barbara Elaine Holman, 77, of Vandalia, Missouri, passed away peacefully at 12:08 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri.

Barbara was born on July 7, 1949, in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Lee Holman and Eunice Lorraine (Essex) Holman, who preceded her in death. She was baptized in the Baptist faith.

She attended the Second Christian Church of Vandalia, MO regularly, under the leadership of Rev. Melvin McCaleb and continued to worship under the new leadership of Rev. Oscar Williams.

Barbara attended Quincy Beauty Academy, where she earned her cosmetology license. She began her career as a cosmetologist at Coiffures west in Jacksonville, Illinois, before continuing her profession in East St. Louis, Illinois. Later, she returned to Mexico, Missouri, where she worked in Admissions at Audrain County Medical Center. She eventually made her home in Vandalia, Missouri.

Barbara was a member of the VFW Post 2173 in Vandalia. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures and had a personality that drew people in. She loved watching her favorite soap operas, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless, as well as professional wrestling. Barbara also enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the casino, preparing her famous cheeseballs, grilling meals, and sampling all kinds of fish—earning a reputation as a true fish connoisseur. She loved searching for treasures while thrifting, listening to R&B music, and never turned down a good conversation on the telephone. Above all, Barbara cherished the time she spent with those she loved.

Barbara is survived by her sisters, Donna Holman and Joyce Holman; her niece and nephew, Ashlee Holman and Robert Grant Holman; her great-niece and great-nephew, A'Marie Holman and De'Angelo Holman; her special first cousins, Brenda Alexander Springs, Gaile Nalley Johnson, Clarence Holman, Jr., Fred Holman, and Sheila Holman; along with several extended family members and many friends.

Visitation celebrating Barbara's life will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Waters Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Vandalia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Concerned Citizenry for the Restoration of Lincoln School.
