Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.

Albert E. Maiden passed away at 5:28 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his home in Vandalia. He grew up in rural Pike County and attended Vannoy School. Albert helped on the family farm for several years and began working at the Walsh Refractories near Farber in 1947. He then served his country by joining the U. S. Army in March 1951 and served in the South Pacific during the Korean War until 1953. Upon returning to the Vandalia area, he continued working in the maintenance department at CE Refractories until it closed in 1986. Albert worked for the City of Vandalia a few years prior to his retirement. He was a Christian by faith and was a member of the Oddfellows and Rebekah's Lodge in Vandalia and a member of Vandalia VFW Post 2173. Albert enjoyed many hobbies including, fishing and camping on the Salt River, gardening and his afternoon coffee uptown with friends.

Born: November 5, 1928 in Farmer, Missouri the son of Ernest Elwyn and Flossie Dell (Blansett) Maiden.

Married: Helen Lou Humphrey on May 14, 1954 in Bowling Green, Missouri; she preceded him in death on December 12, 1992.

Survivors include: two sons, Elwyn Lee and wife, Deana Sue Maiden of Vandalia; Billy Gene and wife, Nancy Lynn Maiden of Vandalia; one daughter, Mary Analie Brown of Vandalia; one brother, Bobby Maiden of Hannibal, Missouri; three sisters: Jean Hickerson of Florissant, Missouri; Mary and husband, Fred Nelson of Vandalia; Joann and husband, Wayne Powers of St. Peters, Missouri; also survived by seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Helen; one brother, Bennett Maiden; one niece and one great-grandson.
