Alan Craig Hurd passed away at 5:40a.m. on Saturday, October29, 2016at his home in Vandalia with family by his side. Alan was a lifelong area resident and attended Vandalia schools. After high school, he worked construction inthe areafor several years. For the last 25 years he has been working as a mechanic for Giltner Auto Sales in Vandalia. Alan was a member of the Farber Baptist Church and served on the Baptismal Committee and grounds committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo and working on hotrods and cars.
Born: March1, 1958 in Jacksonville, Illinoisthe son of Fred Fenton and Erma Mae (Mathes) Hurd.
Married: Carrie Rena Graves in Vandalia, Missouri on March7, 1992; she survives at the home.
Survivors include: mother, Erma and step-father, Myron Arttus of Bowling Green; wife, Carrie of Vandalia; three sons: Alan Jr. (Cassie) Hurd; James (Jennifer) Fox and Brent Sampson all of Bowling Green; three daughters: Madonna(Shannon) Utley of Bowling Green; Danielle (Jonathan) Green of Vandalia; Jessica (Joe) Shanks of Farber; fourbrothers: Freddie (Connie) Hurd of Bowling Green; Steve Hurd of Bowling Green; Ronnie (Brenda) Hurd of Louisiana; Jay (Melissa) Hurd of Eolia; five sisters: Pamela Severson of Bowling Green; Debbie (J C) Bufford of Curryville; Cindy (Lyle) Stokes of Buffalo; Robin (Clyde) Smith of Bowling Green; Wendy (Mike) Lindsay of Louisiana; 23grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: father.
